I'm just a bill.....

I've been stewing on this, so pardon the rant...

This last weekend I went to a legislative training seminar. I thought I would learn valuable lessons about how to effectively lobby during the upcoming Reproductive Rights Lobby Day here in WA. I thought there would be frank discussions on the aggressive stance of the Anti Choice protesters and how to handle ourselves during our march. I thought we'd talk about which legislators to target & what to say to them. I thought we'd review the issues surrounding The Healthy Youth Act.

Instead, we partook in a civics class....for 2nd graders.

I understand that there are some people that don't know how laws get made...

But I did not expect it to be SO rudimentary. The ENTIRE two hours was spent on the law making process. No quick diagrams, no high school slide show(BEEP! Clack-ick), no handy leaflets...

They want us to go to Olympia to lobby. All of us have done this before. We are all very political. We are all educated and reasonably worldly. I might understand if this were training so that WE may teach new voters. I understand the need to be thorough, I do. It was all just so patronizing....to be treated as though we didn't already know. I'm just sayin'....

I mean, GEEZ, we've all seen School House Rock for fucksake!

Looking At The World Through Chocolate Colored Glasses

This is the background image my daughter chose yesterday for My Yahoo page. His name is Chococat. The page was still a Fall theme with turkeys, and she decided it had to go. Quite honestly, I never knew the old background was turkeys. They were small, and in Fall colors. I thought they were leaves. Needless to say, I'll be making an eye appointment....

Anyway, today I logged on to read the news, and while reading about Iraq, Gaza, and priests who rape....this bug eyed feline and his friends were staring at me...it gave me the willies. It was surreal...

Then I got to thinking....What a great tool this could be for the Bush Administration....I may not be so enraged about the war or the assault on my civil liberties if the news (or as it would be called, "The Mews") were reported by adorable Sanrio characters.

I mean REALLY...who could get angry at Hello Kitty?

Just like syrup

Just got off the phone with my Mom...
She calls me every night and says "Thank you, thank you, thank you!"
Then hangs up...

She's been doing it every night for the last ten and a half years....

She says its to thank me for giving birth to the most beautiful creature on earth.....

It never gets old.

My Mom just called

I copied and emailed this entry from Blog Ho to my parents...They are out seeing the country in the most cliche of ways....they are newly retired and driving a camper van(the Winnie's next, Mom!)...

My mother then called me. She had the giggles so bad she could hardly talk. Once she caught her breath, she reminded me about a family conversation we had not long ago...it went something like this:

Mom: When I'm old and on life support don't let your father take care of me.

Me:Why not?

Mom: He's lazy, he'd forget to change my diaper. He'd think it easier to just unplug, rather than take care.

Phillip(my bro): I'd NEVER unplug you, Mom.(Ass Kisser)

Les(my sis): I'd TOTALLY unplug you, you old bitch!(She doen't need the inheritance)

Me: I think I'd unplug you...plug you in...unplug you...plug you in...unplug you*heh heh*

Mom: Phillip, you are the new favorite (it used to be ME)...as for the two of you, you are disowned and out of the will....but its okay with me if you care for your father.

I'm fightin' mad

An Open Letter to pgirl2005

The more I think on it, the more angry I become...The cowadly way that you try to impart your ideology on me is contempable. Quite honestly, you are a disgrace to those you align yourself with. At least they do not resort to subversive and devious means (like cyber stalking) to convey an opinion. They are forthcoming, and speak OPENLY of their views...you do not. You are one of the zealots that hold back your cause. You are the reason that the war on choice will be lost. You are nothing more than a terrorist, hiding behind the mask of a seemingly friendly chatter. I would have engaged you in healthy debate had you shown your true colors to begin with....You should be proud of your opinion. To be so sneaky leads me to believe that you are not.

You can blame GOD

God said to me...."write about life", so here goes.....don't say I didn't warn you...

I just got done flushing...

For the last month and a half I've been horking up (a technical medical term) the nastiest stuff. I had sinus surgery in December... and apparently it takes eons to heal. The first 15 days were THE WORST . I can honestly say that childbirth was a cakewalk by comparison, and I was in labor for 32 hours(I am not a wussy).

The major healing has all but run its course...its this residual crap I'm having a hard time with. I'm no longer in pain, its just a digusting, twice daily ritual at this point. I stick a ball syringe with warm saline up my nose and squeeze....then the fun starts...out comes the most putrid, vile toxic waste... I'm talkin' chunks. Its all I can do not to vomit...

I'm growing weary of the whole process and can't wait to resume breathing normally....

Like I said, blame God....

Word Power

Every morning I get a "Word Of The Day" from Dictionary.com and every morning, it seems, I am disappointed. It is because I usually know the word and already use it as part of my regular vocabulary. My Hubs proclaims me a "word snob". I beg to differ.

I believe they think we are dullards. Here is a list of the ten most recent words...

  1. profuse
  2. quagmire
  3. hubris
  4. impervious
  5. sedition
  6. brackish
  7. conucopia
  8. languid
  9. forgo
  10. extemporaneous

Granted, I may not use these words every day....however, it is not unreasonable to think a person of AVERAGE intelligence would know and perhaps, use these words.

I'm not talking Mensa here, I'm saying the average, grown, moderately educated person....

Is Hubs right? Do YOU know these words?(not you, Blog Ho...I know your brain is so bright, I gotta wear shades)

Rock N' Roll Camp For Girls

Hello Portland!!(crowd cheers)We're The Bookworms!!(crowd goes freakin' nuts)

That's last year at camp. The girl in green is my one and only, Blaine. She is such a GGGRRRLLL. I am SO proud!

And so another year begins....just got the application today. As always there are no guarantees for admission...this makes the next 4 mos. hell.

Camp is a wonderful place for girls who love to rock! It is also a great place for girls to develop into STRONG women. Its not just about rock music...its a place where girls learn to accept themselves and other girls COMPLETELY.

They learn about body image and acceptance, self defense, embracing diversity(musically, ethnically, etc.), how to succeed as a woman in the male dominated music industry, instrument experimentation, zines, writing, producing, stage setting(roadie stuff), stage presence, how to handle media, etc....its all that and more, in a safe, loving, testosterone-free zone, where girls can be GGGRRRLLLZZZ.

Last year the girls wrote and arranged their OWN music...no covers..
The week is brought to close by a showcase of all the bands in a concert, held at The Alladdin in Portland,OR. It's a great show, and a perfect end to camp.

So many wonderful people contribute to camp--Sleater Kinney, The Donnas, Pearl Jam, Death Cab For Cutie, and MANY more. Please visit RRCG and give if you can, it is a great cause!

I hope Blaine gets in this year. She's been the last 2 and LOVED it!

Keep your fingers crossed!
GIRLS ROCK!

Rock & Roll!!!

Lookit Me, I'm A Pirate!

Well shiver me timbers!! I LOVE SOULSEEK! It is SO fast! Or so I've heard, I wouldn't know....I would NEVER "share"....*wink wink, nudge nudge*

So far, my friend likes SS more than KaazaLite, WINMX or Emule....there are others that she has not tried yet...

It is only because she is an addict, she couldn't possibly support her musical habit with her income. She'd have to sleep in her car....don't think the rest of the family would appreciate it.

What else is there to do on a slushy day? Snow's too wet to play in. It's too wet to accomplish anything around the house. The best thing to do is watch movies ALL DAY....today I've seen Personal Velocity, Garden State, & My Life Without Me.....all very good movies.

All the while, my friend was quietly filling her Shared Folder....

Ever notice Starbucks is always on a CORNER? Now I know WHY.

Chantico is the newest from Starbucks...drinkable chocolate, NOT chocolate milk or cocoa, drinkable chocolate....fucking brilliant!!

My hubs always jokes that they put heroin in their coffee...he needs a fix at least 3 (CHA-CHING!) times a day. I never gave his theory much credence until I read about Chantico. I bet they even give you the first taste for FREE, those bastards.
Still have Gmail to give out, people.........

Like, OhM'God!

I was such an 80's cliche....didn't realize it until I actually wrote the post(see Musical Truths, below). What a poser.

Musical Truths

Following the lead of AnonymousCoworker and Texas Biscuit, I decided to shuffle my musical deck to produce the truth about me musically...I was pleasantly suprised.
Not to shabby, if I do say so myself. Here is what I came up with:

  1. King Crimson--Sheltering Sky
  2. Lou Reed--Dirty Boulevard
  3. Madness--My Girl's Mad At Me
  4. Le Tigre--Viz
  5. Whitney McCray--Breakin' Us In Two (from Different For Girls/Women artists & female fronted bands cover Joe Jackson)
  6. Flogging Molly--Rebels of the Sacred Heart
  7. Stevie Ray Vaughn--The Sky Is Cryin'
  8. The Gits--Seaweed (R.I.P Mia Zapata)
  9. Joss Stone--Fell In Love w/a Boy
  10. Visqueen--Crush On Radio

My only complaint....NO CAKE, damnit...You've got to cake on the CAKE..

And lo' those many years ago (in another lifetime), I too, worked in a record store (No CD's).

Jeez...I can see myself then. *cringe*

Little mod girl, bobbed jet black(dyed) hair, short plaid straight skirt , faded Jam t-shirt with sleeves rolled, black ballet flats, green parka (covered with band buttons) with fur hood, chewing clove gum (never did smoke), and riding frontage roads all the way to San Francisco on the back of my boyfriend's scooter to see The Police....

How time flies....I feel so incredibly OLD right now.
