Fucking Blogger!

Blogger! Don't fucking make me go to MySpace...there's only so much Hello Kitty a person can take. But your apparent inability to fix your problems may me driving some of us away.

Take the post below for instance...it says Monday, but I just posted it. And I cannot find a way to fix it. The edit page won't let me.
First Kitten. Now Rich. You people are bumming me out. But I understand. Just promise me you haven't moved to MySpace. Ew.

*Stop your messin' around

Theres a new Discover Card commercial, maybe you've seen it...A handsome black guy who owns an I.T. business, but still likes to talk to actual people when dealing with customer service.....blahblahblah...

It all seems so innocuous. Then...

I find myself humming along to a strangely familiar tune that is lightly intertwined with the narration of the commercial.

Then it hits me.
The Specials.
A Message To You, Rudy.

I feel hollow. I can taste the bile at the back of my throat.

I'm used to the music of my youth being used for commercials. It really doesn't bother me to hear Top 40 pop diddies selling Cadillacs and cruise vacations....but THIS?!

This is sacrilege!

And now, back to your regular programming

The events on Sunday still linger in my head like a fog. If it weren't for the news I would scarcely believe that it even happened....that it was somehow a dream...or more correctly, a nightmare.

We are getting ready for Thanksgiving. This is the first time having it at MY house. My parents are coming over. Blaine is making a chocolate cream pie. We certianly will have more than the usual to be thankful for.
--------------------------------------------------------

Last night, one of my favorite people was on the Tonight Show. Jimmy Carter. He is such a true human being. I may not agree with some of his personal beliefs, but I find him to be one of the most genuine people on the planet. And although he may not agree with some of my personal beliefs, he recognizes that the laws of the country are made BY the people, FOR the people...and he respects them.(Unlike SOME people)

I was 10 years old when I first saw Jimmy Carter speak. My mom took me out of school and we drove to downtown Sacramento, where he was giving a speech. We arrived early in the morning, so that we could get a good spot. We parked and walked a few blocks and finally situated ourselves next to a lamppost and concrete trash bin. My mom wanted to make sure that I would be able to see so I stood on the bin.

I listened. And I heard. That day a Democrat was born.
It was also the day that I learned that people hated America.

While President Carter spoke, there were Iranian students shouting "Death to America!!". They were wearing bandanas over their faces, some with bags over their heads, fists raised, and they were snaking their way through the crowd. They were gone almost as soon as they were noticed, presumably swept away by Secret Service. It was frightening, but thrilling to witness. I can only assume, in retrospect, that it was seen as a protest against The Shah because the hostages had not yet been taken.

At the time, I remember thinking "Why would anyone dress up like the Unknown Comic to protest?!"

Although Jimmy Carter was not considered a great president, he is a great human being. I will remember that day forever

*Tacoma Mall Shooting

We left the mall around noon, as we were leaving through JCPenney, we heard what sounded like very loud shattering glass. We kept walking through the store, not knowing what made the noise. We heard it several times after that, and were wondering what was happening.

Hubs said "Thats gunfire." It was then that we heard the screaming and saw people running toward us, yelling "Get out!"

It was so weird, everything was going in slow motion, we couldn't believe it.
So far, the man has shot possibly 6 people, and is inside a Sam Goody store with hostages. The mall is locked down and they are trying to get him.

I'm crying as I write this. I can't believe this. I am so thankful that Blaine was not with us. We were there shopping for her.

He was just shooting people for no reason. I can't stop shaking. I didn't even see it, and I'm a wreck. I can't believe this. I can't believe this.

*Update 4:15pm...Looks like they caught the guy. 6 people shot, nobody dead. Still no idea WHY. They said he was smiling.

I know that I should've been worried about the people inside, but all I could think of was how thankful I was that we got out and that Blaine was not with us. I'm still in disbelief that it even happened.

...If only in my dreams*

Mozzy and Papa told us today that they won't be here for Xmas. We were all pretty bummed out until they told us what they would be doing instead.

It all stems from the trip they took last December. My parents drove their camper cross country and toured the southeast. They visited old friends and relatives and did some major site seeing on the way.

My mom's all time favorite place was Slidell, LA. She absolutely fell in love with the town and its residents. She especially liked the little restraunt on the water, where they ate lunch each day while there.

They returned home from their trip in March, with plans to visit again soon. Then Katrina hit and basically wiped the little town my mom had grown to love off the map. The plans to make a repeat visit were scrapped.

Until last month, when Papa got an idea....

He contacted Habitat for Humanity and volunteered to work in the little town they fell in love with. They may also be going to Tupelo, MS. They leave for MS on Dec.11th.

They are both very excited about the trip. Blaine is very proud of her grandparents. This has raised their coolness to a new level, and she can't wait to do some volunteering herself.

Hearing what my parents are doing for Xmas helped take away the sting I felt on Saturday at the mall and has helped return my faith in humanity.
My parents ROCK!

*Pucker up and kiss it, Whoville

In years past, the Xmas season started when Santa Claus appeared at the end of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. He would ride down the streets of New York on his parade float, Xmas songs would start playing, and people were finally allowed to start their Xmas shopping. What the fuck happened?

Yesterday we went to the Tacoma Mall because Blaine needs new sneaks. Being November, I wasn't at all suprised by the appearance of seasonal mall decorations being up. I've come to expect it. I don't like it, but have resigned myself to it.

That is....until....we rounded the corner at JCPenney's....and saw Santa's Seat....

WITH SANTA'S FAT ASS SITTING IN IT!!!

A line of children waiting to have their wishes heard and pictures taken by bored teenagers in elf costumes twisted its way around the snowy banks of the North Pole and Santa's Work Shop.

I froze. My mouth dropped open. I was stunned. "What?! The?! Fuck?!" Its the ELEVENTH of NOVEMBER!" , I said out loud to Hubs. And within earshot of small children. "This. Is. Just. WRONG....." Shaking my head slowly..."Un. Fucking. Believable."

Hubs looped his arm in mine, and gently guided me away from the horrible sight, grinning a grin that told everyone...."Yeah, she said what you thought she said..."

As I was led away, still in shock and in disbelief....I heard the tiniest Cindy-Lou Who voice say...

"Mommy? Whats a unfuckingbelievable?"

*Updated--You pay the difference, ALWAYS

*What I am trying to let you see with this post is that WalMart, instead of paying a decent wage, is relying on all of us to make up the difference. I am not harping on the poor. I think If they paid decent wages in the first place, this post would be pointless. I believe that WalMart preys on the less fortunate. WalMart employs them, sure, but the pay is shit. The part-time hours worked by most of them don't qualify for WalMart's insurance coverage, who is, by the way, IT'S OWN INSURER. WalMart ensures itself a legion of shoppers who cannot afford to shop anywhere else. The roughly 2.5 billion dollars in aid that WalMart workers are eligible for would be moot if WalMart merely paid its workers a living wage.

See here how YOU pay for low prices.
WalMart loves their employees so much, they even show them how to fill out the paperwork!

---------------------------------------

*ONE STORE. Just ONE.

One 200-employee Wal-Mart store may cost federal taxpayers $420,750 per year. This cost comes from the following, on average:

$36,000 a year for free and reduced lunches for just 50 qualifying Wal-Mart families.
$42,000 a year for low-income housing assistance.
$125,000 a year for federal tax credits and deductions for low-income families.
$100,000 a year for the additional expenses for programs for students.
$108,000 a year for the additional federal health care costs of moving into state children's health insurance programs (S-CHIP)
$9,750 a year for the additional costs for low income energy assistance. (from The Hidden Price We All Pay For WalMart/ A Report by the Democratic Staff from Committee on Education and the Workforce 2/04)

The estimated total amount of federal assistance for which Wal-Mart employees were eligible in 2004 was $2.5 billion. (from Harper's Magazine 3/05)

MMmmm...Brussel Sprouts

It is THAT time of year once again...
Every year we do something fun and a little weird. It supports a good cause, with proceeds going to charity....and it grosses out your Thanksgiving guests. There are always prizes for whoever can finish a WHOLE bottle...and NO, Cranberry Sauce does NOT count.

Lost Kitten...Reward

*Where, oh where has my little cat gone? Where, oh where can she be?

Kitten With A Whip is gone! Cat-napped perhaps?
I'm gonna miss her...she gave good link.(wink wink, nudge nudge)
Where ever she is, I'm sure she has landed on her feet(those feet in Jimmy Choos, of course).

*I know the song is about a dog, but it seemed fitting.

Voting on Tuesday

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it....somewhere else . Vote YES on 901.

If high gas taxes bother you, remember what they pay for . If you vote to repeal the gas tax, you'll only have yourself to blame if the viaduct falls on your car. Vote NO on 912.

Its, like, totally awesome!

Today is a rainy day. So what am I doing? Sitting on my ass, still in a robe, eating pop corn and drinking coffee. And watching TV.

I Love The 80's, to be more precise.

I couldn't be more content. Nothing makes me happier than watching Mo Rocca making fun of Lover Boy.

The day is young, the coffee pot is full and we are only on 1982.

Bitchin'.

Heeeeres Lizzie!

Lizzie Borden took an axe and gave her mother 40 whacks. When she saw what she had done, she gave her father 41.

If lies were semen stains....

The Dems FINALLY put on the gloves! Its about fucking time. This brawl is gonna get ugly. And no nomination, or bird flu, or other shiny object will make America look away. I hope that The Downing Street Memo is finally given the weight it deserves.
