So a filibuster won't work...

Does that mean...
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em ??!
At least, one of them has decided to think clearly....not that it will make a difference.
But the point still needs to be made.

Sometimes in April

I just got done watching one of the most powerful movies I have ever seen. I not only cried, but sobbed uncontrollably. Sometimes in April is one of the most disturbing and moving pieces of film I have ever seen. The acting is honest and raw, the depictions of violent slaughter, vivid and unsettling. The scale of the Rwandan massacre is shown in horrific detail.

Unlike Hotel Rwanda, it doesn't tell just one person's story. It revolves around a few - Augustin, a moderate Hutu military officer, married to a Tutsis who takes refuge in the Kigali Hotel; his brother, Honore, a radical radio personality who broadcasts against Tutsis and is put on trial; and Martine, a survivor who later becomes Augustin's partner. It passes back and forth from the beginning of the genocide to the 2004 trials.

This is a movie that must be seen....if not to see what happened, then to find out how the world's most powerful nations disgraced themselves by doing nothing while 800,000 innocent men, women and children were brutally slaughtered in a mere 100 days.

When the movie was over, I felt ashamed and sad. Americans were more consumed, during the genocide, by the suicide of Kurt Cobain than by the slaughter of tens of thousands of Africans.

Even today, we seem to care more about Brangelina and what an asshole Tom Cruise is, than the ongoing genocide in Sudan.

Kerry to lead filibuster

All the cool kids are doing it....

I've done it.
I'm no longer a virgin.
I have succumb to the pressure of my internet peers.
And I'm SO glad I did.
I thought I would feel dirty, but I don't.
I feel liberated.

FireFox rocks.

Google is da bomb, yo.

Last night, Hubs and I were discussing the whole Bush Administration/Google debacle. We agreed to continue our loathing of the (heh, yeah, whatever)"President", and to also do our part to help, should Google have to bend to The Administration's will.

Hubs had a rather comedic solution...Why not do a reverse Google Bomb? Instead of trying to dictate the ranking of a specific page, why not dictate the ranking of the issue searched?

His idea is sublime in it's simplicity.

Every time you visit Google, in addition to whatever you are searching for, Google this: "Impeach Bush"

Then, maybe, they will really know what is on the minds of the surfing public...

Blogging For Choice Day

Image hosting by Photobucket

Today is the 33rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade. I thought it would be nice, for a change, to see the pro choice side from the male perspective...this is probably the best article I have ever read from ANY perspective. Thanks to Silver Turtle for turning me on to the post and to PDanielson for writing it and allowing the link.

If you haven't already, hit the button in the sidebar, tell your Senators "NO ALITO!"

*Freedom Girl shakes her booty in a victory dance
GO MA-AX, GO MA-AX!!! 32 yards!! 2nd & 8. 4 minutes to go.
Blame it on the rain...missed field goal by Washington. Should've been a penalty for delay of game....but it didn't matter, he missed it anyway. Heh.
It was a lucky catch. A fluke.
Moss TD in 4th, score 10-17
Let it rain!!
The first drops of the rain bring the first sack by the Seahawks in the 3rd, resulting in a 4 yard loss for Washington.

No one has brought it up yet...

so I thought I would...

If you put something on an application for employment, but later DENY that thing, and the item doesn't appear on record ANYWHERE, doesn't that thing kind of look like a LIE?
"Earlier, Specter said staffers had examined records of a controversial Princeton University alumni group once cited by Alito in a job application, but had found no mention of Alito."

Am I the only one that wouldn't want an apparently DISHONEST man as a Supreme Court Justice?

STOOPID is the new KEWL...or...Harvey and his Epilady

Remember when you had to KNOW stuff?
When I was a teenager and wanted to work in a record(yes, I said RECORD) store, I had to take a TEST to evaluate my knowledge of music.
When I was in college and wanted to work in a book store, I had to take a TEST, to evaluate my knowledge of books.
Today, however, it is an all together different story.

Incidentally, I kicked ass on both tests.

"Unfortunately, we cannot predict what nature will do." -local maintenance supervisor Joyce Komac

Apparently, Joyce is new to the area. I cannot remember a year, in the 14 that we've been here, that there wasn't a slide along that stretch of road.

My little town is saturated. It has rained every day for the past 24 days. I'm sick of it.

Make The Call

If you haven't already done so, call your senator and oppose Alito's confirmation. Then tell your friends.

Its a good thing I posted those adorable pictures...

Blaine came out of the bathroom after her shower, with her hair up in a towel. Her bangs were swept up inside the towel, leaving her face exposed. She said something to me...

I must admit I didn't hear anything she said...I was in shock.

Me: Oh. My. When did you do that?
Blaine: Do what?
Me: (pointing at my eyebrows)That.
Blaine: Aerin did it for me while I was at her house.
Me: Oh.
Me: Did it hurt?
Blaine: No.
Me: From now on, Punk, please let me help you with stuff like that. I think she may have plucked just a little too much.

Every time I look at her, I fight back both tears AND hysterical laughter.

Hubs keeps reminding me that they will grow back and that its a good thing she wears bangs.

Indeed.

Playing with my new scanner.....

These are my favorite pictures of Blaine. I couldn't get them to load without being HUGE....so click and see how cute she was.
at 4 months
AND
at 4 years

I need to remind myself of those days every once in a while...those days when she rolled her eyes and it was cute and silly....not annoyed and embarrassed.
