Blaine has been going to Rock'n'Roll Camp for Girls every summer since she was 9 (she'll be 14 soon) and it has made a profound impact on her life. RRC4G gives girls a safe place to find their voice, raise it up and express themselves in ways that empower them.

As a parent, it is astounding to see the transformation that takes place over the course of one short week. At Camp's concluding showcase, these once shy, little girls take the stage as seething musical behemoths whose hearts and voices refuse to go unheard. It is absolutely beautiful.

Go see this movie.

do some house cleaning. This blog is a mess.

Well, no Cake show, but the guy that got the tickets had a blast....I'm glad at least someone had fun.

We were VERY lucky...only having missed a show...the rain, flooding, mudslides & trees falling made the lives of many here horrible. There's a huge sink hole in town. The highway into town, along the water, is closed indefinitely because of a huge mudslide. We drove around yesterday to survey the devastation. Its pretty bad...and we aren't even in one of the places hardest hit. That storm was insane. I almost came unglued when we were in Starbucks...I overheard a guy comparing what has happened to KATRINA...what an asshole. So what if a tree fell on your car...you did not lose EVERYTHING. You didn't get uprooted, you got inconvenienced, you asswipe.

We are deep in the throws of planning our next bout, slated for Jan. 25th. I'm super excited and have a shit-ton(thats a technical term, by the way)of work to do. Friday...thats tomorrow, right? We are having a fundraiser at a local bar. We're collecting toys for needy families...and spreading the derby gospel, looking for new recruits and hopefully making us some $$$.

This derby business has got my head spinning. I never knew it would consume my life the way it has. But its good, I'm busy and active, out & about. It has been a strain on my marriage at times, but from what I hear, its not uncommon...just like wives whose husbands are super into sports like softball...they feel neglected. It's difficult to find that balance. I've tried including Hubs, but he just doesn't seem to be into it...maybe if he could skate it would be different... a lot of husbands ref, or coach. I think he feels even more left out now that Blaine has started Junior Roller Derby(which by the way, I think will be as important in her life as Rock Camp).

"THEY" have bled us dry. We are done. I'm boycotting xmas this year. The last straw was when we were at the mall, in Macy's, on NOVEMBER 2ND...and I heard xmas music. I'm done. The commercialism has RUINED it for me. We are getting a small tree, decorating it only with lights, and only getting gifts for Blaine...and even then, we are not going overboard. Blaine and Hubs both think its a great idea. No gifts for every family member, friend and friend's kids, no cards, no decorations outside(except for a plain natural wreath on the front door) no huge, elaborately decorated tree like usual, just a small, potted tree with lights...we are keeping it SIMPLE...Going back to what xmas is supposed to be about...FAMILY. I'm so much more relaxed...I forgot how FUN xmas could be. I think this will be a good thing. We may even do something nice for a local family...maybe xmas dinner or something.

Anyway...thats it for now. Don't feel neglected if the postings are slow...at least I'm posting, right?

The Hubs and I had tix to go to CAKE at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland tonight....but shitty weather, a state of emergency and road closures prevented us from getting there. I'm SO BUMMED right now. Karma will be good to me, though...I left the tickets(via a lost ticket voucher)at will call for a deserving Cake fan from Craigslist...he is picking them up at no cost to him....that was our only option this late for the tickets to be used. I hope he has a great time. SO BUMMED right now.

Since I started roller derby....

We're FINALLY having OUR FIRST BOUT!!! An exhibition interleague bout...I was picked for the RED team. RED....Like the blood we will spill. We are bouting the PURPLE team. PURPLE....Like the bruises we give them.

Finally. After almost a year of grueling practices....injuries....new and wonderful derby friends.....fundraiser after fundraiser....appearances in parades....write ups in the papers....Finally.

We have one last fundraiser before the bout....

I went to the doc and he told me I have acute, chronic bursitis from the injury. I have a couple micro tears on the patella tendon, but that could be from age and my weight. I also have some residual bruising on the femoral plataeu. He gave me a big ass shot of cortisone(which hurt like a mofo, btw) and put me on Piroxicam. I can skate again when I don't have pain and the swelling has gone down!!! I'm so excited!

I've been SO busy with derby latetly, doing fundraising and whatnot, that I've neglected my blog and my bloggy friends.

What sucks even more is that I'm not even skating right now...during spring break, I fell and hurt my knee....pretty badly. I tried skating it off right away. That was stupid. I tried R.I.C.E. for several weeks before trying to skate again...but still the pain is horrible and just gets worse with every stride on the rink. I went to a sports medicine doc, because my regular doc just told me I should STOP doing derby(WTF??). I had an MRI last week and I go in today to hear if surgery is warranted. I'm almost positive it will be. He's pretty sure I have a torn meniscus and that I bruised the femoral plateua pretty severly....

I hope the news is good and that even with surgery, I will be back on skates in no time.

Oh...and Blaine is at Camp....The showcase is at the Bagdad Theater in Portland on Saturday night. She's super excited.

SIFF this weekend!!!

As some of you know, Blaine was involved in the making of Girls Rock!, a documentary about Rock'N'Roll Camp For Girls. Well, the film has come full circle, from her interviews, her refusal to be followed at camp, a major shake up with the camp's board of directors, a subsequent camp experience, and the final film cut, to The Seattle International Film Festival premier this Friday night. Two years has flown right by!

Apparently, Blaine is not in it very much. Her shyness and refusal to be followed at camp, lead to only a tiny bit of her footage being used and included in the movie. But one of her songs is featured! I'm pretty sure that Blaine's Tourette's is the reason she so steadfastly refused to be followed at camp...although she never seemed bothered by it before, I think having every single sound she uttered taped was a little more than she could handle. But the film was not meant to be about Blaine anyway...its about the tremendous power of RRC4G....what the experience of rock camp gives to every girl that attends. It is a definite MUST SEE!

If you live in the Seattle area, go check it out!

There are two screenings of the film, both at the Harvard Exit Theater...one Friday night and one Sunday. On Saturday afternoon, there will be a benefit for RRC4G at Chop Suey on Capitol Hill.

I find this one particularly UN-funny because I have a jar of the tainted peanut butter in MY frige. Its sealed in a bag, awaiting testing, if needed. We are part of the class action suit against Con-Agra. I made PB&Js for my husband and daughter for a couple of months with that crap. It was on sale when I bought it, so I bought a few. We went through a jar, or two, and a half before the recall. Hubs and Blaine were sick, intermittently, for well over two months. I never got sick because I don't eat peanut butter. I feel tremendous guilt for continuing, although unknowingly, to feed my family something tainted, that made them ill. I wondered why the stomch flu was SO pervasive...I insisted that I never got sick because I wash my hands so much, and that they could learn a valuable lesson from me. Little did I know, there was another reason for their illnesses and my apparent good health.

I've never been party in a law suit before and I don't know what to expect from it....I'm just angry that my family was continually made sick, and that every time it was because I made them a sandwich. Now my stomach turns, just thinking about it.

Just over 18 years ago, I bound down the stairs of our apartment building, late for work. My foot hit the last step and I heard a noise. There was a rustling and a mewing, coming from the bushes adjacent to the bottom of the stairs. I bent down to look, just as a tiny head popped up from underneath a huge variegated ivy leaf. "Well, hello there!", I said.

It was a tiny, grey, tabby kitten tangled among the vines of the ivy bushes. I didn't hesitate. I scooped her up and she mewed again, licking my fingers, purring. I turned it over to see what we had, giving her belly a scratch. It was a girl. I turned and walked back up the stairs. A few more minutes late wouldn't make a difference.

I rang the doorbell and Soon-to-be-Hubs opened the door, perplexed as to why I was standing there. I held out the scrawny grey rag to him and said, "Get some litter, a box, and some Kitten Chow....we're keeping her. Her name is Ivy...'cause thats where I found her."

My friend passed away this morning. She waited until I got up to check on her to say goodbye. I stroked the soft fur of her head, scratching behind her ears like she liked me to do. She gave one last quiet mew and left us.

Goodbye, Old Bitchy Kitty, I love you.

Our first benefit was a success!

The bands were awesome...even more so, because they did the gig for nothing! I think Neutralboy and Season Of Nightmares are definitely on my list of favorites now. Not just because they rock, but because they are super cool and were very generous to give up a lucrative weekend night to help us out.

The spanking and kissing booth was a huge hit. Although nobody really wanted to kiss the girls....they wanted them to kiss each other. Buttons were given out to those who made donations for the booth. There was a choice of button, depending upon what you had paid for...

"Spanks A Lot!" & "S.W.A.K."(think 8th grade)

The group date auction was wild, with more money generated from the black market sale of dates after the actual auction had ended...."I'll donate an extra hundred bucks, if you trade dates with so & so"... Many of the girls were "won", then promtly put up again by the winning bidder...it was really hilarious.

The night, although a revenue boom for the league, was, personally, a shitty night. Hubs got shitaced drunk, then got pissed at me for what he perceived as neglectful behavior on my part. I was busy running the merch table and noticing that it appeared to be boring him, so I suggested that he go mingle(there were plenty of people there he knew). He took it as though I was trying to get rid of him and he said some loud, drunken, hurtful things. I'm still pissed at him. He hurt my feelings,embarrassed me, and was generally acting like a dick. I hadn't realized that he had drank so much or that the drinks were so strong, because I had only been drinking Skinny Roy Rogers (Diet Coke & grenadine)all night.

He left for work this morning, hung over and out of sorts from the time change. I hope his temples throb all day long.

I realize that last post seems a bit hateful. It is.

A terrible thing to realize about yourself, hatefulness.

I don't like to think of myself that way. Something about the way that man makes me feel...sickening. I've decided that I don't really hate him. I pity him...because he will never know what a great kid Blaine is, because he never gave me a chance. Judged me, merely by the shape I happen to be. We aren't talking mean fat jokes, here. I can handle myself with a fat joke or two. We are talking cruelty. We are talking demeaning comments made, in the presence of others, with no other intent but to hurt me. And what I don't understand is that NOBODY ever questions or corrects him. Its like they are all afraid of him. I bet he tortured animals when he was a child.

Some think I am the one that should avoid him, but that I should not keep Blaine from visiting. But the way I see it, is that he is poison. I would never give my child poison.

I tried getting over it, not letting it bother me. We even visited a couple years ago. But I couldn't handle it. He didn't say anything about me on that visit, but was poisonous just the same...spoke of niggers, spics and fags, said Hubs could have done more with his life...my ears burning every time he opened his foul mouth. It was then, just after dinner, that I packed up our stuff and told Hubs we were leaving...that if his mother wanted to see us, she could visit the hotel where we would be staying. I couldn't have my child in that house another moment.

We haven't been back since. I know it is painful for Hubs' mom, and I am sorry for that. She has an open invitation to visit us anytime she pleases, without her husband. She has yet to take us up on the offer. We talk often on the phone, and I send pictures regularly. But Blaine won't ever really know this grandmother.

It makes me sad.

Roller Derby seems to have taken over my life. But in a good way. Except for one thing...Hubs, who was SO into me doing it at first, has now started calling himself a "Derby Widower". Funny how he forgets about the widow I once was. He'll go back to thinking its cool when we start bouting and he can point and say "That's MY WIFE."

I've been working on a fundraiser for the league. Let me know what you think...

I contacted the local Harley dealership and asked if they knew anything about setting up a poker run...I thought it might be a cool idea for a derby benefit. The guy on the other end got all excited and was more than eager to help us. They have offered the use of their facility, which includes, a BBQ, outdoor tables and an outdoor stage. They will DONATE all the food(burgers and hotdogs) and sodas!! We will ask for a donation of $3 for a hotdog and coke....and we get to keep all the proceeds!! One of the derby girls' dad is in a ZZTop tribute band, and they have offered to play the event for free. All of this is in addition to the poker run, which will have a $20 entry fee...we're doing a 50/50...that means half goes to prizes, and half to us! Isn't it amazing what can come from a single phone call and a question?

We figure it will make so much, that we've decided to include a charity in the event. We will be donating a portion of all proceeds to The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance at Children's Hospital. It can't hurt to improve the image of roller derby. There a lots of people out there who don't recognize it as a legitimate sport. Some people actually think its just a catfight on wheels, by skating whores in fishnets. Idiots.

Another good thing came from that call. Erin, the receptionist that answered the phone, was the first to field my question....which she countered with tons of her own. After we talked, I invited her to join us at practice that night. She showed up and was awesome! This chick can fucking skate. She's gonna be a huge asset to the league.

Well, I'm off to do laundry...of sorts. I'm gonna try and wash all my derby pads...they smell putrid. Luckily, I don't have practice again until Sunday, so they will have plenty of time to air dry. I'm putting my helmet in the top of the dishwasher for cleaning. It stinks pretty bad, too. Hopefully that will work. At this point, its clean it or buy a new one....because I don't think I could put it on my head again without gagging.

I haven't weighed myself since I posted about the inadvertent weight loss, but I'm confident that I've shed a few more....I'm trying to resist the urge to get on the scale and check. Maybe I'll have a cookie instead.

A few weeks ago, I was complaining that I'd been busting my ass at derby for the last 3 months and hadn't lost one single, solitary, fucking pound...It was pissing me off. I don't like scales, and hadn't weighed myself since.

Last night some of the girls commented that it looked like I'd lost some weight. I just rolled my eyes and said,

"Shyeah, right, whatever."...
and continued on with practice.

When I got home, I stepped on the scale for shits & giggles(forevermore referred to as "shittles"), lo and behold...

I've lost 17 pounds!!

I don't want to sabotage myself by getting to excited about it, though. Because honestly, I'm not doing roller derby to lose weight.

I'm doing it because I like to hit people.

How come little dogs like to curl up in the crack of your ass when they are under the covers? Usually, Sheena is snuggled up to Hubs, but lately she seems to favor me. Even when I'm curled up on the couch, she will wedge her way into the triangular space between the back of my knees and my butt. If I get up from the couch, she will dive into the space between the cushions, until another butt crack is available. Weird little dog.

The Portland Wrap Up

Holy crap. I can't believe it took me more than two days to recover. The pain and hangover were well worth it!

I have a renewed energy and drive for derby greatness, now that I have witnessed it live. It is truly awesome and I HIGHLY recommend that everyone seek out and attend a roller derby bout in their town. You won't regret it.

The skill and finesse with which these ladies skate is pure and athletic. The bouts themselves, are more like a fast moving, full contact chess game, rather than an all-out cat fight on wheels, like some people may think. It is just as much about sacrifice as it is about speed and blocking. Taking penalties is more about gaining the upper hand than it is about unnecessary roughness.

Hopefully, I will, one day, be half as good as the ladies we saw.

After the bout, we went to the fore mentioned Outlaw for the after party. It sucked, so we went half a block up the street to Union Jack's. A very cool strip club featuring Suicide-type Girls, with lots of piercings and tattoos. I'm not a strip club regular and far from an aficionado, but this place was awesome! The highlight of the evening was a stripper named Porcelain, who came out and did her act on....wait for it....ROLLER SKATES!!! The place, which was wall to wall derby girls and devotees, went flippin' ape-shit. I had the best time.

I never thought that I was the strip club type, never really thought about it much. But I had a blast! The dancers were not raunchy like I thought they would be. It was very campy and Burlesque-like, and watching pole dancing is akin to watching Chinese acrobats. Sure they were naked, but after the initial flush of embarrassment, I ceased to notice. Dancers, coupled with the best chocolate martini I've ever had, will be making UJ's part of every Portland visit from now on.

It went something like this:

FG(sitting on couch, after practice): What's that smell? It smells like feet and ass!

Hubs: maybe its you.

FG: I'm serious, what the hell is that smell?

Hubs: I'm serious, maybe its you.

FG: Are you sure its not your feet?

Hubs(grinning): Are you sure its not you?

FG gets up, smells self...not good,but not the offending odor...smells couch, smells dogs, smells dog bed, gives Hubs the once-over, picks up and (*KIDS: Do NOT try this at home!) smells Hub's motorcycle boots, smells coats on rack...catches whiff of odor again.....

Drops to knees on floor....almost loses after-practice snack...

What followed was a barrage of questions.

What the hell made the carpet stink in that one spot? Is it from your rain gear dripping on the floor?(I'm pretty sure thats it, I told him to hang that wet crap in the garage, btw) Have you worn your workboots home(remember, he's a meat cutter)? Why did we get rid of the steam cleaner again?

Then, it got comical...

New Years Resolutions....

I usually think those things are crap. Why wait to designate a specific time to make changes that affect your life positively? Why not just do it when you thought of the change that would make your life better? Like roller derby, for instance. I wanted to do it, so I did. I didn't wait til I dropped the pounds like I wanted to do...I was horribly self conscious and considered not going until I was in better shape. Then I got to thinking. How stupid. Getting in shape, for something that will get me in shape. Thats like losing a few pounds before signing up for a gym membership. Thats fat girl thinking for you.

I did make a promise to blog more and to read more blogs. But that actually isn't a New Years' Resolution....it just happened to fall within the time frame, so thats what I called it.

I suppose if I have to make a resolution, it would be not to make resolutions. Like the Nike ad says....

Just. Do. It.
Whether it be on January 1st, or any other day.

Freddie hit the nail on the head.

I had a really bitchin' post in the works, with tons of derby links and updates...stupid me didn't press save at any time during typing and I lost it all when the power went out. We were without power for 3½ days. NOT. FUN. AT. ALL.

The power finally came on late Sunday. We are some of the lucky ones. Some of the derby girls live out in the Key Peninsula area and were told, yesterday, they'd be lucky to have power by xmas. Holy shit.

I've been uber busy with derby stuff. This starting a league crap is really time consuming. But fun. And so worth it. I'm having the time of my life!

We practice three times a week now. And we've been doing tons of fundraisers.

The league from Olympia, The Oly Rollers, came up last week and showed us what real bouting was like. We have tons of work to do. They were so fucking FAST. But the experience was a great one, even if they did wipe the rink with us.

We practice bout all the time...knocking each other around is fun, but its all about learning techniques and honing skills. Thats why I was more than a little suprised to find out just how satisfying it was for me to knock a perfect stranger on her ass. I would venture to say that roller derby is just as much a high as any drug I have ever done. And man, its potent!

Last night was a grueling workout.I made a rather nasty boob plant(think face plant, only lower), my right tit is entirely blue and purple. Good thing it's mine, or I'd have be in the ER with a ruptured implant. I hit the floor so hard that it split the seam on the cup of my bra. I even took pictures! Don't get all excited, there's no nipple action.

More than a year and five doctors later....

Went to the new urologist yesterday. That doc immediately made a fit-in appointment for him with a surgeon. That doc told us that he has double, possibly TRIPLE hernia. He has an MRI on Thursday, then is scheduled for surgury on Monday. Apparently, the pulling of all his junk is what may have caused the prostate to blow up like it did. The doc said he's giong to take a look around during surgery to see if there are any other issues.

During the visit, when the doc was telling Hubs all of this, I could see a wave of relief washing over him...he had been screaming all this time and someone had finally heard him, and is going to do something about it.

After Monday, they expect he will be off work for at least 2 weeks. This will be the first time since Blaine was born that he will be OFF on Thanksgiving.

The last few days have been emotional. With Hubs being in pain, me having a horrible chest cold, and the likelyhood of a wake in my future, I have broken down and cried several times.

My Grammy, who turned 100 in July, will probably die very soon. It was a goal for her to hit 100, but now that she's done it, she's lost all her spunk. All she talks about now is going to see Grampa Homer, that is, when she's not sleeping.

I'm sure we'll be going to CA soon, to see her off. We don't like to call them funerals in my family...we celebrate the lives of those we've lost, and usually throw one hell of a party. Hers will be memorable, to say the least.

When we were little and stayed with my grandparents, my Grammy would always stay up after everyone had gone to bed, cleaning up and having some quiet time alone. After a little while of hearing her softly shuffle through the house, we would always hear my Grampa's booming voice break through the quiet, calling to her. "Sarah! Come to bed!"

It never failed that she would answer him, "Hold your horses, Homer, I'm coming!....Your feet better not be cold!"

I will miss you you, Grammy. I am so grateful to have you in my life. I'm am most grateful that Blaine got a chance to know and love you, too.

I took Hubs to the ER yesterday morning. He has acute prostatitis.

I have never seen him in so much pain. He actually shook from it. I was so thankful when they gave him a shot of demerol, the doc commented that it was as much for me as it was for him. He is now on pain meds, anti-inflammatories, and antibiotics.

This is the second time he has been struck down by it. And we still are looking for a doctor to give us some answers as to why. The last time, the antibiotic course was almost 3 months! He has a lifelong history of kidney stones, and they think there may be a connection. It is usually caused by a back up of a UTI into the prostate, but he never presents with symptoms of a tract or bladder infection prior to it, literally, bringing him to his knees.

He has been poked, MRI'ed, CAT scanned, and ultrasounded. He has pissed gallons, and had quarts of blood drawn. But still they don't know what is causing it. He has an appointment with another urologist on Tuesday. I'm am wrought with worry...I hate to see him suffering, and so frustrated.

My first derby injury...I left a little elbow skin on the rink. There are also huge bruises on both my knees. My next purchase will definately be a helmet and pads. I didn't think I'd be getting rough just yet, but it looked so fun...so I just said "Fuck it! Whats the worse thing that could happen? " and went ahead and joined in a little blocking exercise....I'm sure I will regret that decision tomorrow. It fucking rocked! I loved it.

The other women are really cool, and everyone is really supportive. I really think this is going to be huge. This is just what I needed.

I'm going to take a handful of ibuprofen and have a glass of wine, then off to bed...I wonder if I will be able to get out of bed without anyone around to help?

Not exactly the "A-list" I dreamt about, either...

But a cover and story I'm proud to be a part of...

If not for my right to do with my body as I saw fit, my life would, most likely, have ended by my own hand 22 years ago. I questioned myself for a long time...was it really a rape? Or had I played some stupid game and come out the loser?

No.
It. Was. Rape.
And I would not let him rape me for the term of a pregnancy OR for the rest of my life. My life is MINE.

I am forever grateful that I was allowed to make things right...to continue my life the way I intended. He took a lot of things from me that night, but he couldn't take that.

I thought about typing his name. Hoping that he, or someone he knows, would see it. But its a common name. And he knows what he did. Nothing I type now will change that.

I have never felt the urge to speak or write about this before....until a few months ago, when I got an email from Ms. Magazine with a request for women who have had abortions to give their names publicly. It was an impulse. One that I couldn't deny.

I emailed them my name.

A few weeks later, I got a phonecall to confirm all the information I had provided. I told the woman on the other end..."Thanks. I feel like I can let it go now." She thought I meant guilt over the abortion, and told me I had nothing to be ahamed of...but she misunderstood. That is one decision I will NEVER regret making.

What I let go of that day was a secret. A secret, that if left untold, could put my daughter in the same postion I was in all those years ago. Alone and scared. I have to make sure that won't happen to her.

We haven't yet had the conversation...I'm still working it out in my mind, and waiting for the right time...for when she is able to wrap her mind around it. She already knows what I think of a women's right to choose, she just doesn't know that I know about tough choices, firsthand. She is smart, I imagine she has already figured it out. My hope is that she will never have to make such a choice, but that if she ever has to, she can.

I skated today and I ache to the very core of my being. After skating, I watched a pratice and enjoyed every single second of it. I can't wait to skate with these ladies.

The season just ended and the league is brand new, so we probably won't have any "official" bouts until next year. Until then, we train.

Now all I need is a rollergirl name. Any suggestions?

Blaine was voted 7th grade Vice President!!
Our town now has a new skating rink!
After a 20 year hiatus, I tried roller skating again. I was on a speed team as a kid. I still got it.
I was asked if I'd be interested in joining a new roller derby league. OH YEAH! I'm SO there.
Blaine finally decided on a Halloween costume. To my bewilderment, it is not gorey, dead or zombified....she wants to be a Forest Faerie...a woodnymph. WTF? Who the hell is this kid?! Where's my deep, dark, mysterious, brooding Blaine?
I had the stomach flu for 3 days. While I was in bed dying, Hubs let us run out of toilet paper...of course...I found out while sitting on the toilet, shitting my insides into the bowl, while nobody was home. FUCKER.
My parents are going back to LA to build another Habitat house in December.
I have become addicted to Heroes. and BSG (Thanks, Bennet).
My LCD monitor took a shit and I'm too cheap to buy a new one before Xmas. Everything appears wavy on screen...anyone feeling generous?
I finally picked the last of my tomatoes. They were plentiful and delicious! This summer will always be known as "that time we grew tomatoes as big as a baby's head".

I FINALLY found the cord for the camera...

The first show we saw was The Gossip. I ♥ Beth Ditto! All of their albums have been in heavy rotation at our house since the show. We were too far away for good band pics, but I did some excellent people watching...

The tickets I won included a very intimate mini concert for The End radio listeners, called an End Session. We were four of only about forty in attendance. Hawthorne Heights played a respectable 10 song set.
I must admit, I wasn't much of a fan beforehand, but I really like HH now. Their three guitar sound is really rich and really loud. The guys had fun playing for us and it showed.

Blaine's friend, Aerin, was giddy at the sight of rockstar boys and couldn't believe that they shook her hand and took pictures with them.
"Like. Oh. My. Gawd!! He actually TOUCHED me!!"

Blaine, on the other hand, lusted after Micah's guitar. When they finished their set, the guys handed out their set lists and drum sticks. Somebody shouted "Hey! Can I have a pick?!" The guys handed out the picks they had...then Blaine shouted to Micah,

"Hey! Can I have your Gibson?!"

Oh. And Yellowcard also played....a crappy, rushed, acoustic set of 3 songs, wrought with technical difficulties. And they were assholes, too.

After the End Session, we went over to the rock art exhibit called Flatstock and checked out all the cool concert posters.

We ate footlong corndogs on the grass and listened to a DJ, whose name I can't recall, mixing it up at the Bumbrella stage.

That evening, we went to the mainstage to see the BIG show. Hawthorne Heights, Yellowcard, and AFI.

I was, once again, impressed by HH's musicality. They are good performers that don't rely on a stage show to give a good concert. It was all about the rock. Except for their introduction by Darth Vader and his Storm Troopers, I was again, unimpressed by Yellowcard. And AFI...ugh...had a ridiculous wintery stage set with white speaker stacks, trees and fog...and they all wore matching white outfits. Bleh. It left a bad taste in my mouth. I really regret not leaving early and going to see Lady Sovereign.

I've decided that those who can rock, DO...
And those who can't,
give a fabulous light show.

All in all it was a great day. We saw some awesome bands, some cool art and made some fun memories!
