Are toothpicks still okay?

They're at it again.

I posted about this a year ago, almost to the day.

I still feel the same way about it today.
My patriotism cannot be diminished if someone burns a flag...No more than my marriage would be diminished if gays were allowed to marry.

Patriotism lies in your heart.

Soldiers do not die for the flag .

They go to war with the belief that they are doing good for the country. They go to war with the hopes of upholding all that the flag is supposed to embody...like freedom of religion and free speech.

My father served 21 years in the USAF before retiring a Major. He was a navigator for B-52s and C-130s, serving three tours in Viet Nam.

He brought me up to know the difference between true freedom and blind patriotism. He taught me that our Constitution gives us the right to say and think as we wish, and that is where our true freedom lies.

Freedom is an ideal. A flag is a symbol.

If you burn a flag, your freedom is NOT vanquished, it is DEMONSTRATED.

Wrapping yourself in the flag is the true desecration.

The Reckoning

Today, I watched The Reckoning.

It was suprisingly, pretty good. I say this because I really hadn't heard anything about it before seeing it today. Somehow this one got by me. Was I just oblivious to the advertising? Did anyone else hear about it? How does a decent movie slip through the cracks and crap like Big Mamma's House get so much attention? Where was I? What was happening at the time of the movie's release that would have swept it under a rug?

I hate it when that happens.

Dirty Talkin'

Mozzy thought buzzing Hub's head was a euphemism for giving him a blowjob.

Here is a list of things said/heard around our house that are also NOT EUPHEMISMS, Mozzy:

  • boxing the cat
  • slobbing the dog
  • hiding the remote
  • waxing the bike
  • hitting the bag
  • scrubbing the rat

Shame on you, Ralph's

"I just think people have to choose when they believe life begins."

You said it yourself, Kevin. People have to choose...not have the choice made for them.

Hitler or Coulter?

Pick who said what...I only got 10 out of 14, because I gave her too much credit for NOT being maniacal.
Take the test.

Geez! Like I'd tell you stuff like that...

Actual telephone conversation with Mozzy:

FG: Hubs is off today for Blaine's thingy.

Moz: Oh, so he's home now?

FG: Uh-Huh. In fact, I need to buzz his head before we go to this thing.

Moz: Well, what you and your husband do is really not my business, FG.

FG: You thought I meant blowjob, didn't you, Mom? I meant give him a haircut. Geez! Like I'd tell you stuff like that...

(Hubs is listening to the conversation...doing that silent "I think I'm gonna shit my pants" laugh.)

Blaine will be wearing a dress to her 6th grade "graduation". I can count, on one hand, the number of times this has happened since she was 5.

It is a beautifully simple, black(of course), strapless number with white accents.

But, wearing a dress does not go without Blaine adding her own personal touches and flavor. She has decided to make the dress her own by wearing it with "formal", all black, Chucks.

I will, most definately, be posting pictures.

Rock Camp Blues

I am sad to report that Blaine did not get accepted to Rock Camp this year.

I thought she would be devastated when she received the ominously thin envelope, instead of the huge acceptance packet, filled with forms, releases, and information, that we usually get.

But Blaine handled it with composure, grace, and maturity...I however, shed a few tears.

Those tears were dried quickly, though. Blaine comforted me...

"Its okay, Mom. Now another 8 year old will get a chance to know what its like to be cool. I already know I'm cool. Its no big deal. Maybe I'll try again next year... Can I try drama camp this summer?"

The greatest thing Blaine has learned at Camp is how to treat other girls. Sure its Rock Camp..but its really so much more. I will never be able to express my gratitude enough to the staff and volunteers there. My daughter was given a gift that she now wants to share with another girl...the experience of joy and the freedom of expression that Rock Camp fosters.

Blaine truly does ROCK.

*sidenote
Blaine's band, The Bookworms, has had over 4,400 playsof their song "The Is Becoming A Wasteland" on the Girls Rock! Myspace .
How. Fucking. Cool.

Pill Nazis

THIS is BULLSHIT.

The state Board of Pharmacy on Thursday took a step toward allowing pharmacists to refuse to dispense emergency contraceptives or other medication on moral grounds, provided they don't "obstruct" patients from getting that medication

Whats next?

"Not only can you NOT have Plan B, but I won't fill this script for Valtrex, because only sluts have herpes."

Rise up ladies, this shit is real. It is happening. And it must be stopped.
